Floral Bridal Cuff
It all began when a friend of mine told me she was engaged and asked if I would make her bridesmaids’ jewelry. Her wedding theme is wildflowers and lace. What better than to give each supporting woman a different wildflower to wear? Even better, the bride collected and pressed some of her own flowers. Between us, we came up with a collection that included yarrow, butterfly weed, lavender, forget me nots, oregano, queen anne’s lace and goldenrod.
The necklaces came out well. Each was in a brass bezel and oxidized brass rolo chain so that while each of the ten contained a different plant, they otherwise matched as a set. What was next on my mind was creating a statement piece for the bride. After taking a look around different designs and examples in the workshop, we found she was drawn to the cuff style necklace. She likes gold tones. We had to incorporate wildflowers. Taking these ideas, I custom-designed a v-neck cuff to be made from brass. Three flowers would be featured (two of these she found pressed) and the remaining space would be filled with volute metalwork.
The finished piece came out just as I had imagined it. It was so satisfying to work on a piece like this. Somehow here in 2018, I have been given multiple opportunities to work on really difficult and enjoyable custom metalwork pieces, each for brides in this new year! Where we go with the designs from here is yet to be seen. To finish us out, one of my gorgeous friends was kind enough to model the necklace to show how it sits when worn.
Wishing the bride a beautiful wedding and life together with her partner!
